Itinerary in detail

Day 1: Boston
Having made your way to your downtown hotel, the rest of the day is free.
Day 2: Boston
Today, we recommend the Go Boston Card to take the Hop-on Hop-Off bus tour, visiting highlights such as the aquarium, Skywalk Observatory and the Freedom Trail.
Day 3: Boston – Ogunquit, Maine (95 miles)
Explore Ogunquit’s quaint buildings, hidden coves and pedestrian bridges, and walk the Marginal Way for views of the dramatic Maine coastline.
Day 4: Ogunquit – Kennebunkport – Ogunquit
Drive to the seaside village of Kennebunkport to view lobstermen fishing, the former home of President George W Bush and the gothic-inspired Wedding Cake House.
Day 5: Ogunquit – Portland – North Conway, New Hampshire (95 miles)
Drive the scenic route round the stunning Maine coast to Portland Head, with its old port shops and famous lighthouse that has been operating since 1791.
Day 6: North Conway – Franconia Notch – North Conway
Drive into the White Mountains to Franconia Notch State Park, where you can spot falcons from Cannon Cliffs, walk through Flume Gorge or ride the exciting Aerial Tramway.
Day 7: North Conway – Stowe, Vermont (115 miles)
Head for Montpelier and visit Morse Farm Maple Sugarworks, then stop at Waterbury for a tour of Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream Factory.
Day 8: Stowe – Burlington – Stowe
Drive out to Burlington to visit historic Church Street Marketplace, then on to explore Shelburne Museum. We also recommend a cruise on beautiful Lake Champlain.
Day 9: Stowe – Manchester – Lenox, Massachusetts (185 miles)
Drive through the Green Mountains via Manchester, where designer outlets and marble sidewalks lead to Hildene, the Lincoln family home.
Day 10: Lenox – Stockbridge – Lenox
Today’s drives will be to Stockbridge, home to the Norman Rockwell Museum and, to the north, the living history museum of Hancock Shaker Village.
Day 11: Lenox – Mystic, Connecticut (185 miles)
Journey through the rolling hills and serene beauty of Litchfield County, with its antique shops, art galleries, historic homes and magnificent gardens.
Day 12: Mystic – Newport, Rhode Island (50 miles)
Visit Mystic Seaport, the largest maritime museum in the US, then stroll through the recreated seafaring village for an insight into the nautical past.
Day 13: Newport
See how the rich and famous live along Newport’s Ocean Drive, lined with million-dollar mansions that were once the summer residences of New York’s most elite.
Day 14: Newport – Plymouth – Hyannis (93 miles)
Today, drive to the renowned Plimoth Patuxet living history museums, formerly Plimouth Plantation, where outdoor exhibits include a 17th century English Village and the Plimouth Grist Mill.
Day 15: Hyannis – Provincetown – Hyannis
An hour’s drive north of Hyannis’ fabulous beaches and historic villages brings you to the tip of Cape Cod and to the colourful artists’ haven of Provincetown.
Day 16: Hyannis – Boston (140 miles)
The end of your journey and if you are flying out today, remember to leave plenty of time to return your car back in Boston.
