Itinerary in detail

DAY 1: Chicago
Make your way to your downtown hotel where the rest of the day is free ahead of your unforgettable road trip across America.
Day 2: Chicago
Purchase the Go Chicago Card and visit highlights such as Shedd Aquarium and the Sky Deck.
Day 3: Chicago – St Louis, Missouri (200 miles)
Your Route 66 journey begins with a drive through the cornfields and prairies of Illinois and Missouri, passing landmarks such as the Green Gemini Giant and Cozy Dog Drive In diner, home of the corn dog.
Day 4: St Louis – Springfield (210 miles)
Visit the Gateway Arch, St Louis Zoo or Anheuser-Busch Brewery before driving through the Ozark Highlands to Springfield, the birthplace of Route 66. Break your journey at Meramec Caverns.
Day 5: Springfield – Tulsa – Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (310 miles)
Cut across the corner of Kansas bound for Oklahoma state, stopping at the Blue Whale of Catoosa and the Cyrus Avery Route 66 Memorial Bridge in Tulsa.
Day 6: Oklahoma City – Amarillo, Texas (260 miles)
Head for the Texas Panhandle, stopping at the Route 66 Museum in Clinton. If today’s drive has made you hungry, call in at Amarillo’s Big Texas Steak Ranch for one of their 72-ouncers!
Day 7: Amarillo – Albuquerque, New Mexico (270 miles)
Before leaving Amarillo, visit the unique display of art treasures at Cadillac Ranch. Stop for an Ugly Crust Pie at the Midpoint Café in Adrian before continuing to Albuquerque.
Day 8: Albuquerque
A full day to explore the Route 66 landmarks of Central Avenue, Historic Old Town and the Indian Pueblo Cultural Centre.
Day 9: Albuquerque – Santa Fe – Albuquerque
Today, take a trip out to Santa Fe, founded on the ruins of an abandoned Indian village and the oldest state capital city in the US.
Day 10: Albuquerque – Holbrook, Arizona (260 miles)
Route 66 now crosses into Arizona, taking you through the Petrified Forest, with 13,000 years of history represented by an amazing assembly of petrified wood and archaeological sites.
Day 11: Holbrook – Grand Canyon/Williams (180 miles)
Today, drive through the old trading post of Meteor City, then on to the Grand Canyon. Experience the breath-taking views of the canyon and the roaring Colorado River below.
Day 12: Grand Canyon/Williams – Las Vegas, Nevada (300 miles)
Continue heading west to the awe-inspiring Hoover Dam, straddling the Colorado River and forming the border between Arizona and Nevada. Then it’s on to Las Vegas!
Day 13: Las Vegas
Walk the famous Strip lined with its amazing hotels, peek into the glitzy casinos, catch a dazzling show, ride a hair-raising roller coaster, or laze by the pool beneath the desert sun.
Day 14: Las Vegas – Santa Monica – Los Angeles Area (290 miles)
Drive through the Mojave Desert to Calico Ghost Town, then on through Los Angeles’ suburbs of Pasadena, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills and Santa Monica to view the End of the Trail.
Day 15: Los Angeles area
Spend the day on Santa Monica beach, see how the rich and famous live in Beverly Hills, or visit Universal Studios Hollywood or the very first Disneyland Park.
Day 16: Los Angeles
So ends your Historic Route 66 journey. Time for one last look around Anaheim before heading back to the airport for your return or onward flight.
